The Maritime Incident Response Team (MIRT) was formed in 1999 as the operational arm of the Tri-state Maritime Safety Association. The primary purpose of the Team is to provide local Incident Commanders and the Coast Guard with specialized expertise in Marine Firefighting and other marine related response issues.

The MIRT also provides Marine Fire/Rescue coordination during events on the Delaware River such as fireworks, boat races, and other events. During these events, the MIRT provides participates as part of the Unified Command under the Coast Guard's Incident Command System (ICS). Some notable events include OPSAIL 2000, Republican National Convention, and the annual Offshore Powerboat Assn Races held between Camden and Philadelphia.
